As I left the cinema having watched the film, I found myself conflicted about my feelings. There is so much to admire here, but it’s evident the filmmakers think they’ve made a smarter film than they actually have. Still, Fan works for the most part. And anyone who – like me – had grown tired and disappointed with Shah Rukh’s unwillingness to step out of his comfort zone will have reason to be a fan again. I’m going with 3 out of 5.

On the whole, FAN has a brilliant first half, but loses track in the second hour, only to pick up again towards the pre-climax. The writing should've been tighter, while the absence of music [it's a songless film!] may also prove a stumbling block, but what works, and works big time, is the terrific act by SRK as the fan. And that's enough reason for you to watch this thriller!

On the whole, Fan is a good entertainer, not an outstanding one. Its first half is enjoyable but the post-interval portion is less entertaining and the climax is a big letdown. It will, of course, make profits but a long run at the cinemas is ruled out. Business in multiplexes and cities will be better than in the single-screen cinemas and small centres. Classes will like the film more than the masses.

The action's glorious but stretches while the naivete of Gaurav's parents (Deepika and Yogendra), unaware of their only child's feelings, seems slightly unbelievable. Yet, ending with a Baazigar-esque twist, Fan makes you feel Darr all over again. Watch it - you'll know why you're SRK's Fan.

Despite its squandered possibilities, Fan is always engaging. What keeps this Fan going is SRK's star power. The actor treads a delicate space in playing his own biggest supporter but also of the community he represents. He’s careful in his zeal, ensuring real-time fans don’t feel as though he’s mocking their affection just as he’s responsible in his response to such swaying attention.

The script (written by Sharma) and screenplay (by Habib Faisal) do show streaks of intelligence and originality once in awhile. But the script also throws up quite a few inconsistencies and impossible-to-believe sequences. If Gaurav can so easily fool the world, what is Aryan's clout we are talking about? If Gaurav can easily impersonate Aryan, why does he go unrecognised otherwise? But then all's soon forgiven when you are kept enthralled by the thrilling chase sequences and that unexpected climax.

I am happy to report that ‘Fan’ is a triumph. Shah Rukh Khan is played to all his strengths, and he plays it just right, gliding in and out of the star and the fan, creating distinct identities and outlines in one scene, and blurring the lines just so in the next. It is a wonderful, grasping, knowing performance, the actor and the star all rolled in one, all at our service, even as they service Shah Rukh Khan’s stratospheric stardom.

The Fan, seems only superficial and incidental. The Hollywood psychological thriller was set in the world of baseball and the fan, played by Robert De Niro, wasn't a lookalike. Fan works for the most part because it has the fabulous SRK act as a 'young' star-struck boy. His energetic performance is worth the price of the ticket - if not more.It is fascinating to watch the actor making the transition from a gawky movie-crazy youngster to a swaggering Bollywood star mimic on stage to a psychologically unhinged stalker who pulls out the stops.Fan is proof that even if SRK isn't 25 years old, he certainly has the kind of enthusiasm that might put many 25-year-old actors to shame.
Ratings:3/5 Review By:Sarita Tanwar Site:DNA
Fan succumbs badly to the second-half syndrome and that is its undoing. It’s almost like the first and the second half are two different films.Everything in the second half is unbelievable – a middle-class Delhi boy travelling to foreign countries and getting the better of a reigning Bollywood superstar should have at least been handled better. Fan is a not a great film, it is a brave film. Watch it still for Shah Rukh Khan’s outstanding portrayal (an extra star only for him).

The outrageously flawed script. This logic-defying drama is cringeworthy in the second half. Watch if you are a true SRK fan because after a long time he performs on-screen as an actor. If you were looking for a thriller then this will disappoint.Shah Rukh Khan performs brilliantly in a film that is flawed conceptually
Ratings:2.5/5 Review By:Lokesh Dharmani Site:Masala
The film that looked promising started to give a few ‘that’s-a-bit-much-bro’ moments that soon turned into ‘haha-kuch-bhi’ moments and by the climax, logic had stabbed itself in the eye with a blunt knife, leaving you miserable with the improbability of the situation. There is a clash between the star and his fan. As a viewer, I would like to be empathetic towards one, judge the other, take sides and get emotionally engaged. I couldn’t quite decide. Fan is implausible, unreasonable and unconvincing.
Ratings:3/5 Review By:Manjusha Radhakrishnan Site:Gulf News
Having said that, Fan is definitely watchable. It’s engaging to watch a powerful actor and his seemingly powerless admirer indulge in a twisted battle of wills. As a viewer, you are often gritting your teeth at Gaurav’s self-destructive stupidity and his motives to wreak revenge seems petty Watch this if you are a die-hard fan of Khan, but don’t expect an unpredictable thriller. The key here is to manage your expectations and you will walk home smiling at having seen an engaging drama about a stupid fan and a faultless superstar.
