Mere Dad Ki Maruti Movie Review
Ratings:3/5 Review By: Rajeev Masand Site: CNN IBN (IBNLive)
Nicely juxtaposing such identifiable themes as a teenager’s desperation to impress a pretty girl, and a boy’s fear of his father’s volcanic temper, against the backdrop of a big fat Punjabi wedding, debutant director Ashima Chibber delivers a harmless fluff of a film in Mere Dad Ki Maruti. This wafer-thin plot notwithstanding, the film is enjoyable mostly for its frills. There’s some nice chemistry between Sameer and his faithful buddy Gattu (Vir Das-lookalike Prabal Panjabi) who together make varied attempts to replace the missing car before Daddyji finds out. Their banter alone makes for some of the film’s funniest moments. I’m going with three out of five for Mere Dad Ki Maruti. It’s light and easy, and not hard to like. Just don’t expect much more.Visit Site for more

MERE DAD KI MARUTI follows the tried and tested mantra: It activates with a dilemma and concludes with a definite resolution. In between, the fast-changing tracks and the colorful characters and episodes keep your attention arrested. You rarely go wrong if you follow this [oldest] storytelling technique in Bollywood... MERE DAD KI MARUTI gets it right on this count. Besides, Ashima does the smartest thing by making it an over the top experience. MERE DAD KI MARUTI manages to steer clear of major pitfalls. What stands out is the fact that most kids want to break free from parental pressures, but end up in trying situations. On the whole, MERE DAD KI MARUTI is a joyride. Mazedaar, masaledaar, full-on entertainer. Hitch a ride on this one instantly!Visit Site for more

The film sticks to a YRF's (Yash Raj Films) staple brand of entertainment; it revolves around a Punjabi family, the backdrop a lavish Punjabi wedding. Since the 'Punjabi' card has been used in films for years, it makes the film look a tad conventional. However, in spite of certain cliches, the film manages to entertain you with its effortless performances, simple story and situational humour.Don't expect an out-and-out comedy, the film is a light-hearted family entertainer with a message for the youth. Do take your dad along for it, in his gaddi!Visit Site for more

Mere Dad ki Maruti is the sort of banal Punjabi comedy that the folks at Yashraj can churn out in their sleep. Mostly Mere Dad Ki Maruti is a tedious chase for a lost car through Chandigarh. The plot is limp. So are the laughs. And the attempt to inject emotion into the proceedings in the second half doesn’t quite work. Mere Dad Ki Maruti is too feeble to make an impression. I’m going with two stars.Ratings:---- Review By: Komal Nahta Site: ETC
On the whole, Mere Dad Ki Maruti is a wonderfully entertaining film for the entire family. While the older generation will like it, youngsters will love it. A section of the youth would also repeat the film. It may have taken a very poor start (due to absence of big names in the star cast and the opposition of examinations) but the positive word of mouth will work wonders for the film as collections will take a giant leap in the big cities.Visit Site for more

It’s frequently silly and sometimes daftly plotted, but Aashima Chhiber’s directorial debut crackles along very breezily indeed, with enough gags fired out so that it doesn’t matter if a third of them miss their mark It’s a ride, a goofy, forgettable ride. One that throws up a debutant director with promise and actors who deserve to be in more films. Give it a whirl. Like a Rado wristwatch that a character automatically dismisses for fake, this film may not look it but happens to be the real thing.Visit Site for more

Produced by Y Films, YRF’s alternative production label, Mere Dad Ki Maruti, has all the essential ingredients of a Bollywood wedding flick, but it serves them up in a somewhat watered-down form. The dilution serves the film well. This isn’t a laugh-out-loud comic romp. But some of the gags the film rustles up are genuinely funny and bear the stamp of a degree of cleverness that one rarely encounters in an average Mumbai comedy.Mere Dad Ki Maruti is a winner, an easy film to like. Go right ahead.Visit Site for more

I sat through the first half looking for something to surprise me. But, post interval, things perk up. The plot catches speed, the writing smartens, and some twists leave you smiling. And the actors come out better too, more filled out, taking a cue from the lines they are made to say.At its best it is placid, and sort of middling, this Mere Dad Ki MarutiVisit Site for more

What’s Good: The quirky, mad-mad comic elements, the witty dialogues, the sudden break-into-YashRaj-films modes, performances of Prabal Punjabi, Saqib and Ram in the given order! What’s Bad: The abrupt climax and the emotional flavor towards the end. Few loose ends in the plot. Loo break: Not really unless you don’t get the humour! Watch or Not?: Mere Dad Ki Maruti is a typical comic caper but with a contemporary twist. Watch it and rollick in bouts of lot-pot wala laughter.Visit Site for more

Every once in a while the right potion gets flung into the mix, resulting in a fun-filled concoction that keeps you laughing.Mere Dad Ki Maruti’ emerges as this winning ride, maintaining its steady grip on the steering wheel, with a foot firmly positioned on the accelerator.Chibber never lets up the pace, keeping the drama and the wisecracks at full speed, with a relatively short race time of 100 minutes or so.Back in 1995, ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ set the benchmark for the perfect Punjabi family entertainer; perhaps, it’s only fair that another Yash Raj production takes the mantle with fully charged batteries for gen-next.Visit Site for more
